EMU Faculty of Pharmacy 2021-2022 Academic Year Spring Semester Graduates Took Their First Steps to the Profession

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Pharmacy held an oath taking ceremony for the 2021-2022 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates. With the oath taking ceremony held at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall on Friday, 1 July, 2022, at 12:00, the graduates took the first step into the profession.

President of EMU Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel, Vice Rector for Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Müberra Koşar, Vice Deans, Faculty academic staff and graduating students attended the ceremony.

In the ceremony that commenced after a moment of silence and the National Anthem, a video about the former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Mustafa Fethi Şahin, who passed away recently, was screened. Then, Seyedehdelaram Ghalehbandi and Michelle Nyesiga Andinda delivered speeches on behalf of the 2021-2022 Academic Year Spring Semester Graduates.

“I am Proud of You”

Delivering the opening speech of the ceremony, EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Müberra Koşar said, “Dear Pharmacists, you have become my young colleagues today. I am proud of you,”. Prof. Dr. Koşar stated that with the said oath, students will become a pharmacist, one of the most important and respected professions in the world, and recommended that they never forget the concepts of respect, trust and excellence. Addressing the students, Prof. Dr. Koşar said, "Never forget your oath and follow it as a professional guide."

Speaking at the ceremony, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın congratulated all the graduates and stated that he believed they would achieve important things in their professional lives. Stating that EMU has undertaken an important mission in education, research and community service practices, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın added that the university is trying to fulfill this duty properly. At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın wished all students success in their professional life.

EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk, on the other hand, stated in his speech that young pharmacists will take the first step towards their profession by taking an oath today. Stating that he was extremely happy and excited when he took the Hippocratic oath, Dr. Özcenk emphasized that he shared the excitement of the students. Addressing the students, Dr. Özcenk said, “I believe you will be very successful in your profession as long as you stick to your oath. Knowledge is endless. Always read and follow what's new. You are an important stakeholder in the field of health. Good luck to all of you.” 

After the opening speeches, Faculty of Pharmacy student Kimia Zabihi was presented a plaque by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Hamurtekin for her successful performance in “Thesis Project Poster Presentation” prepared under the supervision of Faculty of Pharmacy academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Hamurtekin. Then gifts were presented to the highest ranking students of Faculty of Pharmacy Pharm-B and Pharm-D programs.

The ceremony continued with students receiving their oath certificates from EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hocanın, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Demirel and Prof. Dr. Şensoy and Vice Deans and Faculty Members.

At the ceremony, Faculty Members Prof. Dr. Fatma Neriman Özhatay and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hasip Cem Özyurt, who retired from the Faculty of Pharmacy, were presented plaques of appreciation by Prof. Dr. Hocanın for their support to the faculty . In her speech, Özhatay thanked everyone and stated that she has worked in a very nice environment at EMU, emphasizing that this will be a very important point in her life. Assist. Prof. Dr. Özyurt, on the other hand, stated that human life consists of periods and emphasized that a new chapter will begin in the lives of students with the oath taken today. Wishing success to all students, Assist. Prof. Dr. Özyurt said "Good luck" to all graduates.

92 Young Pharmacists Took Oath 

92 young pharmacists took the oath at the said ceremony attended by B-Pharm and Pharm-D program graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The graduates took their first steps in their professional life by swearing that they would use all their knowledge and skills to protect the health of patients throughout their professional lives, that they would not abuse their profession, and that they would treat patients of all religions, languages and races equally and fairly. The ceremony ended with the tossing of the caps after the recital of the oaths
