About

The center's goals are as follows:

  • To create an interdisciplinary platform for a critical and conceptual discussion of the various disciplines in built environment;
  • To provide active engagement with the related diverse professions and diverse partnerships with industry, government and non-governmental organizations;
  • To develop interdisciplinary and interdepartmental studies;
  • To extend the boundaries of knowledge in built environment through communication and collaboration in an interdisciplinary manner and promote innovation in the professions to integrate research as a way of teaching and practice, defining the periphery of knowledge in the fields;
  • To develop constructive interdisciplinary approaches to become a hub of research in built environment characterized by a culture of experimentation and innovation;
  • To conduct research in built environment as a cultural practice involving both speculative intelligence and practical know-how;
  • To cover multiple fields and methodologies for generating exchange between networks of expertise in a global context;

To investigate how research in built environment can operate using different methodologies within the areas of building science, social science, humanities, and art and design research etc.

Field of Activities

Within the direction of its central aims the “Research Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Built Environment (ISBE)" carries out studies in the following directions (as further units of ISBE):

  • Critical Theories and Studies in Architecture and Design
  • Technologies for Built Environment
  • Spatial Theories and Discourses
  • Inclusive Design and Environmental Access
  • These mentioned directions, will comply with the following:
  • To conduct research, investigation, implementation and development of studies and projects;
  • To cooperate and collaborate with the Continuous Education Center (SEM) and other university units;
  • To cooperate with national and international organizations/institutions; to instigate joint works and to organize collaborations; to initiate conferences, congresses and scientific meetings that are disseminated;
  • To provide consultancy services to public and private organizations;
  • To make scientific publications of the conducted studies;
  • To stay in line with all the research mainstreams and interests of the Faculty and University.
