The aim of the program is to educate the students who become successful in the special talent entrance examination and at the end, bring up music teachers who hold the qualifications accordant with the universal norms by providing science-based education system. Moreover, the objective of Music Teacher Education Program is to bring up music teachers through a system based on participation and application. The graduates of the program are expected to be individuals who have necessary skills to think scientifically and absorb universal music culture. Through the courses, of which the course materials are designed with respect to the developing information and technology, Music Teacher Education Undergraduate Program aims to educate its students to become individuals who know how to reach information, are familiar with technology, are able to use technological devices, can easily apply the latest teaching methods during the courses and creative and highbrowed. The duration of the program is 4 years and the medium of the instruction is Turkish.
The prerequisite for the special talent examination for students coming from Turkey is to obtain either the minimum passing score or above from one of the Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) score types specified by the Student Selection and Placement System (ÖSYM). Thereby, students gain a right to enter the special talent examination held by Music Teacher Education Program. On the other hand, students from TRNC are expected to fulfill the criteria of Music Teacher Education Program special talent examination as well as the Higher Education Planning, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) exam. The Music Teacher Education special talent examination and the YÖDAK exam are in combined scoring system. The prerequisite for the students coming from other countries (apart from Turkey and TRNC) is to obtain either the minimum passing score or above (specified by the ÖSYM) from one of the scoring types of YGS or YÖS (Examination for Foreign Students) exams and, to be successful in the Music Teacher Education special talent examination. Moreover, having an excellent command of Turkish is another prerequisite for the program.
With its Council of Higher Education (YÖK) approved curriculum, academic staff, various national and international academic events and, modern technological opportunities, Music Teacher Education Program welcomes all the Music Teacher candidates to introduce them with the world of information. Adding more, the program offers various opportunities for its students including working in collaboration with İstanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory, CAKA, other departments, orchestra and bands.
5 lecture halls equipped with air-conditioning, video and DVD players, mirrored study rooms with 10 having a piano for the use of every three students, 1 full grand Petrof piano and 2 half-grand Yamaha pianos to be used during the concerts, 9 digital pianos for the computer aided music education, 2 classrooms with a cyclopes and an overhead projector, guitars, violoncellos, violins, violas, flutes and recorders, orgs, accordions, mandolins, orff instruments, percussion devices, drum and peal of bells, band bells and baglama instruments (instrument with strings) are all available for the use of the students.
Our aim is to have graduates who are ready to get a start in business with full competence. We aspire to bring up individuals who have necessary knowledge and experience to be effective and successful in both Turkish and TRNC education systems. Our graduates have an opportunity to work within public schools and private schools that are within the body of the Ministry of National Education. Our graduates can also work within the universities. Another opportunity is that our students have a chance to work in orchestras and choirs that are within the body of the Ministry of Culture and Municipalities.
