The aim is to train students, who are accepted to the program after determining their knowledge and skills through a special talent exam, as music teachers who are equipped with universal norms and raised with evidence-based education. The goal is to bring in music teachers who think scientifically and absorb the universal music culture through a participatory and applied education system. Music Teacher Education Undergraduate Program, which aims to train creative and enlightened young teachers who know how to access information, use technology, and possess the ability to apply the latest teaching techniques in the classroom, is a 4-year program that uses materials entailing the latest information and technology. The medium of instruction is Turkish.
The prerequisite for taking the special talent exam for candidates from the Republic of Turkey is to obtain either the minimum passing score or above from one of the Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) score types specified by the Student Selection and Placement System (ÖSYM). Thereby, students gain the right to enter the special talent examination held by Music Teacher Education Program. Candidates with the TRNC citizenship must fulfill the criteria of being successful in the Music Teacher Education special talent exam and also in the EMU entrance exam. Music Teacher Education special talent exam and EMU entrance exam are in the combined scoring system. Conditions for students coming from outside Turkey and the TRNC are available at Undergraduate Admission . A very good command of Turkish is a prerequisite for students coming from outside Turkey and the TRNC.
With its curriculum approved by the Republic of Turkey Higher Education Council (YÖK), distinguished academic staff, various national and international academic activities and contemporary technological opportunities, Music Teacher Education Program embraces all music teacher candidates to integrate them with the world of knowledge. Moreover, our students have the opportunity to conduct studies with valuable universities as well as cooperating with some institutions/organisations, orchestras and bands.
In our department, classrooms are equipped with video and DVD players, air-conditioning, projectors, study rooms with piano and mirrors, full and half grand pianos, digital pianos for computer-aided music education, and guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, block flute, organ, accordion, mandolin, orff instruments, percussion instruments, drum and cymbal sets, band cymbals and baglamas are all available for the use of the students.
Our main goal is to equip our graduates with the necessary skills that will create value from the first day, and raise them with the knowledge and experience that can be effective in the education systems of both Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Our graduates can become teachers in public and private schools within the body of the Ministry of National Education, as well as in private courses, classrooms and institutions where music education is given, and they can work in the culture and arts units of municipalities, other public institutions and private institutions and in universities as academic staff by continuing their postgraduate education.
