54th Nigerian Independence Day was Celebrated in EMU

Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University International Office, “54th Nigerian Independence Day” was celebrated at Rauf Raif Denktas Culture and Congress Center on Friday, 31 October 2014. The opening address of the event was delivered by Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca. Expressing his best wishes to Nigerian students, Prof. Dr. Amca stated that the university values international students and their contribution to the vibrant student body.

Special guest Dr. Bala Adamu Azare, Rector of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi University, spoke about the importance of the Nigerian night and gave a brief history of Nigeria and its education system.

Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen were also present at the aforesaid event.

Representative of Nigerian Embassy in Ankara Nwokoro Paulinus Uchenna, who also attended the event, extended his gratitude for an organisation as such and congratulated the students on their excellence.  Uchenna also emphasized the close relationship between Nigerian Embassy and Eastern Mediterranean University.

During the event, awards were presented to those who served the Nigerian society and those who performed well academically.

The event which ended with a cocktail reception including cultural dances and musical performances as well as drama and fashion shows received great interest from international students.
