This week’s “Environment and People” Program which took place under the moderatorship of Eastern Mediterranean University Arts and Sciences Faculty, Biological Sciences Department academic staff member and Underwater Research and Imaging Center chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Burak Ali Çiçek hosted EMU Education Faculty, English Language Teaching Department academic staff member and Rector’s Advisor Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam.
During the program which featured topics on shipping, marine and sailing, Prof. Dr. Osam gave information about Kyrenia Harbour and the condition of boats there. Talking about the famous English saying “A ship is safe in harbour, but that’s not what the ships are for”, Prof. Dr. Osam stated that the boats at Kyrenia Harbour are not used sufficiently.
Talking about the infrastructure of the harbours, Prof. Dr. Osam put forth that due to the bad quality of the water in the harbours, the boats suffer damages despite frequent maintenance. Stating that Kyrenia Antique Harbour fails to meet the standards, Prof. Dr. Osam also talked about the electricity and water related problems at harbours.
