“Free Palestine” Conference Held at EMU

Palestinian Students Society operating under Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), International Student Activity and Student Societies Unit organized a conference titled “Free Palestine” on Monday, 4 March 2024 at 05:00 p.m. at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall. With the said event, Palestinian Students Society aimed raising awareness on the recent incidents happening in Palestine. EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu also attended the event, showing support to Palestinian students.

The event commenced with setting white pigeons free on behalf of Palestine and continued with a Moment of Silence, Turkish National Anthem and Jerusalem March of Palestine. Palestinian students Al-Jalilah and Mean Yassen delivered a presentation on the history of Palestine then, Yusuf Yıldız performed a poem recitation titled “Mescid-i Aksa’yı Gördüm Düşümde” (I Saw Al-Aqsa Mosque in My Dream). Following the poem performance, Amjad Taha, the Palestinian Students General Union Representative in Cyprus, delivered an opening speech, welcoming everyone attending the event. During his speech, Taha added that he still has belief that one day, Palestine will restore its freedom with the support of everyone. The event continued with poem recitations by Palestinian students Al-Jalilah - “Ben Oralıyım” (I am from There) and İkram Pratic - “Filistin’in Çocuğu” (Child of Palestine). Moreover, Merve İliş and Fatoş Tunç performed a picture show in the event. The event ended with “Bir Sabah Gelecek Kardan Aydınlık” (The Light will show from the Snow One Day) music performance by Meryem Lordoğlu and Barış Eroğlu.
