Eastern Mediterranean University Health Sciences faculty Nursing Department marked the International Nurses Day through a meaningful organisation which took place at EMU Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall on Friday, 15 May 2015. During the event which commenced with a moment of silence and national anthem, Nursing Department chair Prof. Dr. Refia Selma Görgülü, Health Sciences Faculty Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam delivered opening speeches. .
Prof. Dr. Görgülü started her speech by stating the theme for 2015 International Nurses Day which is “Nurses: A Force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective”. Görgülü added that health is one of the basic rights of humans. The aim of the health services is to deliver effective health care services to all levels of the community through effective resource management. Prof. Dr. Görgülü concluded her speech by stating that nurses hold the information, strength and support to help individuals maintain their health.
Following Prof. Dr. Görgülü, Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç expressed the faculty’s happiness and pride in celebrating International Nurses Day. Prof. Dr. Malkoç also added that the faculty is finalising the preparations for postgraduate study opportunities in the field of nursing. At the end of her speech, Prof. Dr. Malkoç thanked everyone who contributed to the organisation of the event.
After Prof. Dr. Malkoç, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam delivered a speech and stated that during his childhood years, they suffered a lot due to war. Even then, he observed that a group of young nurses were helping patients. Prof. Dr. Osam added that the nursing profession is one of the most priority professions in the health sector as nurses support the wellbeing of humans. To provide quality services in this profession requires good education and love towards humans. At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Osam extended his best wishes to everyone.
Following the opening addresses, students and academic staff members who attended 14th National Nursing Students Congress in Kayseri were presented certificates of appreciation. The event continued with Nursing Department academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Handan Sezgin’s and retired academic staff member Prof. Dr. Fethiye Erdil’s conference presentations.
