Eastern Mediterranean University, Health Sciences Faculty, School of Health Services, Nursing Department organised a conference on 12 May 2016, the “International Nurses Day”. Having taken place at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 2:00 p.m., the event was held under the theme determined by the International Council of Nurses for 2016, “Nurses: A Force For Change: Improving Health Systems’ Resilience”.
Following a moment of silence and the national anthem, the event hosted EMU Nursing Department Chair Prof. Dr. R. Selma Görgülü’s talk on the International Council of Nurses. Stressing the important role of the nurses in the betterment of the health systems, Prof. Dr. Görgülü also provided information on the conference theme.
Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç also delivered a speech and welcomed the participants to the event. Adding that health services are the leading services with special qualities throughout the world, Prof. Dr. Malkoç put forth that nurses are the corner stones of the health sector. In her address, Prof. Dr. Malkoç also provided detailed information about EMU Nursing Department and Health Sciences Faculty.
In his address, Rector of EMU Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam congratulated all current and prospective nurses’ International Nurses Day. Putting forth that EMU has been undergoing change and development since its establishment, Prof. Dr. Osam added that once established with special focus on engineering studies, the University now boasts a strong and well developed Health Sciences Faculty. At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Osam wished all participants a fruitful conference.
Following the opening addresses, Üsküdar University Health Sciences Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Besti Üstün delivered a presentation entitled “Empowerment in Communication: Today is My Day”. Following the presentation, Prof. Dr. Osam presented Prof. Dr. Üstün a plaque of appreciation for his contributions to the event.
The conference then hosted the presentations of students who attended the 15th National Nursing Students Congress which took place at Eskisehir, Turkey between 28 and 29 April 2016. The said event finished with a cocktail.
