EMU Hosted Zimbabwe Independence Tournament

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Zimbabwe Student Society, operating under the EMU International Student Activities and Student Societies Unit, hosted the Zimbabwe Independence Tournament, participated by Zimbabwe Student Associations from other universities throughout the island. Alongside Zimbabwean students, students from Pakistan and Gambia also participated in the tournament. Football, basketball, volleyball, and tennis competitions were held in both men's and women's categories during the tournament.

The EMU Zimbabwe Student Society won all the awards in the volleyball tournaments, in both the women's and men's categories. In the final basketball match, the EMU Zimbabwe Student Society’s Women's Team defeated the International Cyprus University Zimbabwe Student Society Women's Team, securing the championship. Melissa Kudakwashe Mukandi has been selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. In the men's basketball category, the EMU Zimbabwe Student Society’s Men's Team finished in second place after being defeated by the Lefke European University Zimbabwe Student Society’s Men's Team in the final. Rijky from the Lefke European University Zimbabwe Student Society’s Men's Team has been chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

In the tennis competitions, the EMU Zimbabwe Student Society’s Women's Team, represented by Khanyisile Moyo, and the Men's Team, represented by Darlington Makovere, remained undefeated and became the champions of the tournament. In the football matches, the Young Blood Men's Team of the Lefke European University Zimbabwe Student Society emerged as the champions by defeating the Golden Boys Men's Team of the Cyprus International University Zimbabwe Student Society in the final. Bryon Mugoshi from Lefke European University was named the Most Valuable Goalkeeper of the tournament, while Prince Bhoko from the Cyprus International University has become the top scorer. Richard Magosha has been selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Following the tournament, the EMU Zimbabwe Student Society issued a statement expressing gratitude to all the students who participated in the Zimbabwe Independence Tournament, which celebrates Zimbabwe's independence. The statement emphasized that Zimbabwe's spirit of freedom would continue to be maintained through the unifying power of sports.
