Organised by Psychology Students Club operating under Eastern Mediterranean University Social and Cultural Activities Directorate in collaboration with EMU Arts and Science Faculty Psychology Department, a conference entitled Neuro – Psychological Implications of Brain Damage on Language took place at Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tahiroğlu Hall with the participation of Dr. İlhan Raman from Middlesex University.
Dr. İlhan Raman provided theoretical and empirical information on the effects of brain damage on behavior, speech disorders and aphasia. Dr. Raman stated that for the first time a Turkish speaking aphasia patient’s case was scientifically reported in the literature. Stating the importance of reports as such, Dr. Raman also stressed the importance and necessity of aphasia research in Turkish. Dr. Raman defined aphasia as inability to understand or produce speech as a result of brain damage and added that there are two types of aphasia as fluent and non-fluent.
EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty Psychology Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şenel Hüsnü Raman, Psychological Counseling, Guidance and Research Center (PDRAM) Chair Prof. Dr. Biran Mertan, academic staff members and a large group of students attended the conference. At the end of the conference, Dr. İlhan Raman was presented a plaque of appreciation by EMU Psychology Students Club Chair Hasan Cemre Aslıhak.
