EMU Golden Crow New Media Awards Find Their Owners

Organized by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Communication and sponsored by North Cyprus Turkcell, the Golden Crow New Media Awards event took place on Friday, 9 July 2021. The winners of the awards were announced during the ceremony held at EMU Beach Club and mini Golden Crow sculptures were presented to the award owners. At the ceremony where all participants were invited, the “EMU Special Awards” and the “Most Popular Turkish Cypriot Celebrity in New Media Award” were also presented.

More than 45,000 votes were cast by the public within the scope of EMU Golden Crow New Media Awards. Apart from the participants of the new media sector, EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, Board of Trustees members, Vice Rectors, North Cyprus Turkcell General Manager Murat Küçüközdemir, EMU Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu, Vice Deans, representatives of Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union, TRNC Foreign Press Association representatives, Basın-Sen representatives, academic staff members and press members were present during the award ceremony.

EMU Communication Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu delivered a speech during the event and emphasized the uniqueness of the Golden Crow New Media Awards as well as all the efforts that were put in during the organization process of the event. Prof. Dr. Çavuşoğlu continued his words by saying; “I would like to congratulate all the candidates who accepted to take part in this process. I would also like to thank and express my gratitude to the Turkish Cypriot society who voted and claimed the Golden Crow New Media Awards which was organized for the first time this year”.

Honored to be the Sponsors of the Event

North Cyprus Turkcell General Manager Murat Küçüközdemir spoke on the matter and said: “As the leading technology company of the island, North Cyprus Turkcell are pleased to be the sponsor of such an event like this. For us, BİP is new media which we have created 22 channels until today. Total of 183 thousand people from Northern Cyprus has been following this channels. We have seen how successful new media is when presented through the right channels. I would like to express my respect and gratitude to EMU, the most established educational institution of our island, my team and everyone who supported this project. ”.

Following his speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın presented a Golden crow statue to the North Cyprus Turkcell General Manager Murat Küçüközdemir.

I hope the Golden Crow New Media Awards becomes a Traditional Event

Stating that EMU has always been supporting this kind of projects, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın expressed his desire of making the Golden Crow New Media Award traditionalized. Mentioning that over 45 thousand people casting votes during the voting period of the event, Prof. Dr. Hocanın said; “I wish this beautiful organization to become a traditional event”. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın thanked the project’s communication sponsor, North Cyprus Turkcell and everyone who contributed the event.

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın was presented a Golden Crow statue by EMU Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu. On the other hand, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın presented the EMU Rector’s Office Special Award to Ayşe Teksu and Kenan Teksu, known as Ayşe Aba and Kenan Amca on social media. EMU graduates Anselem Irechukwu Nkoro, Hakan Kütahya and Yiğit Can İç were presented awards within the category of EMU Special Awards. The Most Popular Turkish Cypriot Celebrity in New Media Award was presented to Hazar Ergüçlü. Ergüçlü could not attend the ceremony therefore the award was presented to Aygün Kencer upon the request of Hazar Ergüçlü.
