EMU Getting Ready to Host 3rd Fone Film Festival

Eastern Mediterranean University Communication and Media Studies Faculty, Radio-TV, Cinema and Journalism Department is finalising the preparations for Fone Film Festival commencing on 11 June 2015. Taking place at EMU Activity Center, the two-day festival will end with an award ceremony on 12 June, 2015.

On behalf of the festival organisation committee, Radio-TV,  Film and Journalism Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanife Aliefendioğlu stated that the former film festivals revealed that everyone has a story to tell and the information society and mobile culture we live in offer us various means to tell our stories. Hence, the organising committee specified this year’s theme as ‘What I Came to Say’. All high school students and adults have been invited to share their stories telling us about what kind of world we live in or we would like to live in. Short movies shot with mobile digital devices will be appearing under two distinct categories as high school and +18.

Taking place under the sponsorship of Turkish Halk Bank, the theme of this year’s festival is “What I Came to Say”. With the view that everyone has a story to tell, 2015 Fone Film Festival will be an opportunity for the participants to tell their story. Participants qualifying for the first, second and third places will receive financial awards.

Vice Chair of the Department of Radio-TV, Film and Journalism and Festival Organising Committee member Assist. Prof. Dr. Yetin Arslan stated that applications for 100 films, 23 of which are for the high school category, have been submitted to the committee. There has been a considerable increase in the number of applications this year compared to previous years. The festival jury will be announcing the winners at an award ceremony taking place on 12 June 2015.

Shortlisted films in the “International Category” will be evaluated by a jury formed by the Turkish Cypriot Cinema Director Derviş Zaim, artist Anber Onar, CIU Communication Faculty academic staff member Assist.
