EMU Economics Roundtable Hosted Prof. Dr. Çiftçioğlu

This week’s “Economics Roundtable” program which took place under the moderatorship of Eastern Mediterranean University Business and Economics Faculty Banking and Finance Department Chair Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu and academic staff Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Öney from the same department hosted Business and Economics Faculty Business Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Serhan Çiftçioğlu. During the program, the situation of the markets following the local elections in Turkey and possible changes in economic sectors following a prospective agreement in Cyprus were the topics of discussion.

During the program which started with the weekly evaluation of economy, the latest situation in currency and markets in Turkey were covered. Prof. Dr. Serhan Çiftçioğlu stated that due to the political stability gained following the local elections, the market has become more predictable in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Çiftçioğlu also stated that the decrease in currency has another cause which is the U.S.A.

The second phase of the program hosted discussions on the Cyprus negotiations and the preparation of economic sectors for a prospective agreement. Prof. Dr. Çiftçioğlu stated that various economic analyses should be carried out both in North and South prior to the peace agreement so that the sectoral allocation for both parts can be carried out. Prof. Dr. Çiftçioğlu also provided recommendations to the government officials and the economic policy makers regarding the sectoral analysis as well as relevant advantages and disadvantages. The program also featured  discussions on the possible effect of a peace agreement on the universities.
