Successful students of Eastern Mediterranean University Communication Faculty were awarded their honor and high honor certificates in a ceremony which took place at EMU Communication Faculty Purple Hall with the participation of Vice Rector for Student Services, Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam, Communication Faculty academic staff members and students.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam who delivered an opening speech at the beginning of the ceremony organised in honor of 79 high honor and 90 honor students who demonstrated outstanding academic performance during the 2013-2014 Academic Year Fall Semester extended her congratulations to all successful students and wished them all the further success.
In his opening address, EMU Communication Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan stated that students from 30 different countries receive education in Communication Faculty. Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan added that this diversity is the wealth of the faculty. Also stating that EMU Communication Faculty is the best communication faculty within Cyprus, Prof. Dr. İrvan put forth that graduates of the faculty hold important positions in Cyprus Turkish media. Prof. Dr. İrvan stated that ‘Communication and Media Studies Postgraduate Program’ offered by their faculty has been ranked amongst the best 200 communication postgraduate programs by a prominent ranking institution entitled EDUNIVERSAL. Similarly, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA) ranked Communication Faculty’s Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department amongst the top 100 design schools. Stating that being ranked in such lists is not someting easy to achieve, Prof. Dr. İrvan extended his appreciation towards all those who contributed.
Talking about the prospective plans of the faculty, Prof. Dr. İrvan stated that their primary target is to achieve international accreditation. With this purpose, the faculty has applied to the American Communication Association and is expecting an inspection on their programs soon.
Following Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, top scoring students of each undergraduate program delivered a speech. Aybeniz Küzeci who talked on behalf of the Radio, Television and Cinema Department stated that success is never a coincidence. Küzeci added that she has always tried to achieve the best and never gave up. Narin Demirci who delivered a speech on behalf of the Journalism Department, stated that it is the unseen bulk of the iceberg that counts for success. Demirci added that she is happy to be a member of the EMU Family.
Top scoring student of Public Relations and Advertising Department Cefer Mensimi talked about the quality of education he received in EMU and thanked all his teachers for teaching them how to dream freely. On behalf of Public Relations and Advertising Department in English, top scoring student Tosin Ladidi Ogbonyomi stated that if he was told several years ago that he would deliver a speech on academic success, he would not believe it. Ogbonyomi added that success is not impossible as long as there is hard work, determination and God’s help.
On behalf of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department in English, top scoring student Racheal Mojisola Odusami stated her feelings as follows “It was not easy to be away from home. But I did it because there are many people who provide their love and support for me here. I thank everyone who supported my success. Sky is just a beginning. Let’s aim further.” Samira Oziohu Sanni , who talked on behalf of the Radio, Television and Cinema Department in English, extended her appreciation towards her instructors and stated that without their support, she would not have achieved much.
