EMU Celebrates Nowruz

Operating under the Eastern Mediterranean University International Student Activity and Student Union, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan Student Societies held a Nevruz celebration event at the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate Hall.

Considered as one of the oldest holidays and meaning "A New Day", Nowruz symbolizes rebirth and affirmation of life in harmony with nature. Nowruz, which marks the beginning of the spring season, is usually observed around the world on 20 or 21 March.

During the event which garnered high participation, EMU Student Council President Yılmaz Aladağlı delivered a speech in which he stated that the event is extremely important for students to feel at home. At the opening, President of Turkmenistan Student Society Yslam Ziyatdinov, President of Azerbaijan Student Society Toghrul Abbasov, President of Tajikistan Student Society Rakhimjon Berdiev and President of Kazakhstan Student Society Assem Karsybay delivered speeches in which they extended Nowruz greetings to all those in attendance and their wishes of a happy Nowruz to everyone.

EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu welcomed everyone and wished Nowruz to bring health and happiness to everyone. The event also hosted local cuisine promotions, cultural dances, video presentations and various shows prepared by the students representing different countries for the celebration of the new day.
