14 Academics from EMU Appear in the World’s Most Influential Scientists List in Stanford University’s Study

13 academicians from Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) have succeeded in appearing among the most cited scientists in the world in the “World's Most Influential Scientists” list, created as a result of a study conducted by a team of US and Dutch scientists under the coordination of US Stanford University in 2021.  Elsevier B.V., one of the leading academic publishing firms and SciTech Strategies, which has been producing scientific production evaluation and measurement maps for more than 30 years contributed to the creation of the list. It is worth mentioning that the list published last year included 12 EMU academicians. This year, another EMU academic has been added to the list. In the list, 190 thousand and 63 scientists have been ranked within the top 2% of the world. One academician from EMU entered the top 1,600, one academician has been listed within the top 10 thousand, three academics managed to appear within the top 30 thousand, three academics in the top 60 thousand, two academics in the top 120,000, and 4 academics in the top 185 thousand. A total of 1,150 academics from Turkey has been included in the list.

Prof. Dr. Karatepe Becomes Turkey's 7th Most Influential Scientist

According to the report, EMU Tourism Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe has appeared as the 1,572nd most influential scientist worldwide and become the 7th most influential scientist in Turkey. Whilst faculty of Business and Economics, Department of Banking and Finance academic staff member Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu has been listed as the 33rd influential scientist in Turkey, Faculty of Business and Economics, Economics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Mehmet Balcılar, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Mathematics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov, Faculty of Engineering, Computer Engineering Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hasan Kömürcügil, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Babak Safei, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Physics academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Övgün, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry academic staff member Dr. Akeem Adeyemi Oladipo, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel have been listed among the top 500 academics in Turkey.

On the other hand, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Physics Department Vice Chair Prof. Dr. Seyedhabibollah Mazharimousavi, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Physics and Chemistry Department Chair Prof. Dr. İzzet Sakallı, Faculty of Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Osman Kükrer, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Müberra Koşar and Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Physics Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Omar Mustafa managed to appear among the 1,150 academics who have been included in the list from Turkey, thus appearing within the top 2% worldwide.

8 Academicians from EMU in the Career-Long Impact List

8 academicians from EMU have been included in the Career-Long Impact List announced within the scope of the report. A total of 828 academics from Turkey have been included in the list. Tourism Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe has been listed among the most influential 20 thousand scientists worldwide in the career-long impact list and ranks 24th in Turkey. Faculty of Business and Economics, Department of Banking and Finance academic staff member Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu has been listed among the most influential 65 thousand scientists  and appears amongst the top 120 in Turkey.  Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Mathematics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov and Faculty of Engineering, Computer Engineering Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hasan Kömürcügil are among the top 250 in Turkey. Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering academic staff member Prof. Dr. Osman Kükrer, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel have both shown remarkable success by being listed amongst the top 650. Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Babak Safei, and Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mathematics academic staff member Prof. Dr. Benedek Nagy are also amongst the top 820.
