The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Parliamentary Spokesperson Zorlu Töre paid a courtesy visit to the Rector of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, on 5 May, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Prof. Dr. Hocanın’s office. Present at the visit were the Director of the Special Office of the TRNC Parliament, İrem Uygun, the Director of Administrative, Financial, Technical and Parliamentary Services, Hasan Büyükoğlu, Director of Press Relations and Protocol, Narin Yalıner Ataöz, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu, Vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs, Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy, and Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs, Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu.
"EMU is Fulfilling Its Duty to the Fullest of Its Ability"
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın thanked TRNC Parliamentary Spokesperson Zorlu Töre and his delegation for the visit and stated that as a state university established by statute in 1989, EMU is fulfilling its duties in the fields of education, research, and community service to the best of its ability. Prof. Dr. Hocanın also emphasized that EMU is a university integrated with society and that it always works to go further with the support of the government. Prof. Dr. Hocanın also added that they will exchange information during the visit and will provide information on the work they have carried out in order to continue EMU's successful journey with even more momentum.
"EMU Must Stand Firm and Become Stronger"
In his speech, Zorlu Töre emphasized that EMU has a special place in the country because it is the first of its kind in the TRNC. Zorlu also stressed that EMU must have a firm standing, grow stronger, and never give up on education and teaching. Töre pointed out the importance of the quality of education and that EMU, which has been ranked in world rankings, must never give up and always continue to advance. Töre conveyed that there are measures that need to be taken at EMU and emphasized the importance of increasing the university's vital resources. He also stated that EMU has a very important place for the Eastern Mediterranean region, the island of Cyprus, and Famagusta, and that the TRN Parliament is always ready to help as well as to cooperate in social and cultural areas.
After the speeches, TRNC Parliamentary Spokesperson Zorlu Töre presented a gift to Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu. Then, Prof. Dr. Hocanın presented a gift specific to EMU to Töre.
