The new play "Colonel Bird" by the Cyprus Turkish State Theaters was staged at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). EMU Social and Cultural Activities Directorate brought the play to EMU and Famagusta. Written by Hristo Bohtchev and directed by Istanbul State Theater artist and Cyprus Turkish State Theaters Director Hakan Elmasoğlu, "Colonel Bird" was performed on Tuesday, 11 April, 2023 at 20:00 at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center. EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and Cyprus Turkish State Theaters Director Nazım Ced were also present at the play.

Great Interest towards the Play

Generating great interest, the play, which is an original black comedy written by the author during the Bosnian War in 1996, takes place in a psychiatric clinic made from a monastery in a remote location in the Balkan mountains, where there is a shortage of medicine, proper clothing, and food. Deniz Aslım, Pınar İnandım, Zehra Evliya, Ali Şaşkara, Nazım Bayraktaroğlu, Cansev Gürsoy, Mehmet Samer, and Diren Özdoğan starred in the play.

Garnering great interest, the theater play was free for all students and the public. The audience filled the hall, and after the play ended, they gave a standing ovation to the actors. The actors then greeted the participants, and EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and Cyprus Turkish State Theaters Director Nazım Ced presented a plaque of appreciation to the "Colonel Bird" team.
