Prof. Thomas Gives a Seminar in EMU New Media and Journalism Department

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Communication Faculty, New Media and Journalism Department organized a seminar within the collaboration of the Cyprus Embassy in the United States of America (USA). Prof. Jennifer Thomas attended the event as a guest speaker. The seminar delivered by former CNN Executive Producer Prof. Jennifer Thomas focused on disinformation and fabricated news in the media. EMU Communication Faculty showed great interest in the event.

Presenting sample cases of news distortion and falsified news production, Prof. Thomas stated that the members of the press should turn back to traditional methods in news production. Stating that social media is very effective in the publication of fake news, Prof. Thomas warned that we should pay attention to the sources of the news we read and that these sources are reliable, otherwise we may unwittingly support the publication of false and distorted news. Showing many examples of news about Covid-19 during her presentation, Prof. Thomas received a great deal of attention from the students of the EMU New Media and Journalism Department.
