Minister of Education Çavuşoğlu Visited EMU

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) National Education and Culture Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu visited the Rector of Eastern Mediterranean University Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın on 9th July 2020 Thursday at 09:00 a.m.

At a press statement prior to their meeting, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın said that they are happy to host Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu at EMU. Prof. Dr. stated that they are in a busy schedule and that they will exchange ideas over the work EMU to be carried in summer and fall semester, projects and plans. Prof. Dr. Hocanın mentioned that the world is undergoing rough times because of COVID-19 outbreak and underlined that EMU is always ready to help. EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk also expressed his happiness to host Minister Çavuşoğlu and underlined that EMU is dealing with the pandemic period very successfully. Dr. Özcenk reminded that EMU has supported 7,000 students and thanked Minister Çavuşoğlu for their support during this period.

Minister Çavuşoğlu wished success to Prof. Dr. Hocanın who took office after a democratic election process and mentioned that they will talk on a number of subjects. Minister Çavuşoğlu said that they will discuss the 2020-2021 Academic Year planning of EMU and emphasized that EMU is one of the most valuable institutions and the locomotive of higher education in Cyprus. Minister Çavuşoğlu also added that one of the reasons of the visit is to congratulate EMU for the success it received by earning its present place at ShanghaiRanking’s World Universities Academic Ranking 2020 Field Rankings – Tourism and Hotel Management Field and Economics Field.

National Education and Culture Ministry Higher Education and External Affairs Office Manager Ziya Öztürkler, Principal Undersecretary Mehmet Dincer Faruk, EMU Board of Trustees Members Halil İbrahim Orun, Ersun Kutup, EMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu were also present at the meeting.
