Karpaz Vocational High School Students Visit EMU-SCT

Students from the Karpaz Vocational High School in Kumyalı, carried out a trip to the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) to receive information about the university and its School of Computing and Technology (SCT).   

At the beginning of the visit, EMU SCT Director Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlkan relayed introductory information about SCT and answered questions from the students. The students were then shown SCT classrooms and laboratories where they participated in practical exercises. The event during which Computer Programing Coordinator Akile Oday, SCT academic staff member Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasan Oylum and SCT Assistant Director Hasan Oylum were present came to an end after trips to the library, student activity center and social facilities. The group of 35 students and teachers from the Karpaz Vocational High School left the university following these trips which took place after lunch.

During the visit Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlkan informed the students about vocational education and things to consider whilst deciding what and where to study. Prof. Dr. İlkan touched upon the rights of vocational high school students regarding the furthering of their vocational education. Indicating that vocational high school graduates have the right to sign up for the two-year EMU-SCT program without entering an exam Prof. Dr. İlkan went on to state that they can also automatically receive a government scholarship regardless of their family earnings. Prof. Dr. İlkan continued to provide information about the conditions students need to meet to further their education after their graduating from the two-year program.

Prof. Dr. İlkan highlighted that EMU which is the only state university in the TRNC, has international accreditation for all of its faculties. Noting that EMU features in world university rankings, Prof. Dr. İlkan concluded by underlining that all EMU-SCT programs have European Union (EU-Germany) ASIIN accreditation which indicates that they provide quality education at European and international standards.
