Within the collaborations of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education and Karpaz Vocational High School, “21st Century Authentic Learning – Technology Integrated Education Design for Language Teachers” course was organized for English teachers who teach secondary level English in both public and private schools. The event, which was held online between 19 April and 7 May 2021, was free-of-charge with the aim of providing public-service within the scope of Karpaz Vocational High School’s “Smart CALL” titled European Union Project. The course was delivered by EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School, Foreign Languages Department academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. İldeniz Özverir under the supervision of EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education academic staff member Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam.
Participants were Pleased
Authentic learning was referred as 21st century pedagogy during the course. It was aimed to develop students' skills by using technology. The focus was on the successful integration of educational technologies with education during the pandemic period. The participants were taught about the use of WEB 2.0 tools and new technologies such as creating virtual classrooms, resource sharing, website production, electronic album production, poster production, video conferencing, and the use of software that can add interactive links to static pictures. 37 participants who successfully completed the course were presented certificates. Stating that they are pleased with the training they have received during the course, participant also said that they would like to have more training sessions, and that for the first time they received a course where they could fully integrate technology into education.
Certificate Ceremony was Held
A certificate ceremony was organized on Thursday, 1 July 2021 at 10:30 at EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education Library. EMU Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Pehlivan, Head of the Foreign Language Education Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Javanshir Shibliyev and academic staff member Ahmet Hıdıroğlu attended the ceremony. EMU Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Pehlivan delivered a speech during the ceremony, emphasized the importance of organizing training sessions worthy of EMU and thanked Assist. Prof. Dr. İldeniz Özverir who delivered the online course. Participants who successfully completed the training session were presented certificates.
