EMU Tourism Management Doctoral Program Graduate Receives Outstanding Paper” Award

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism, Tourism Management Doctorate Program graduate Ecem İnce has received the “outstanding article” award. Her article titled "Impacts of Cittaslow Philosophy on Sustainable Tourism Development", which is about her doctoral thesis and published in Open House International, was deemed worthy of the “2021 Outstanding Paper” award by the editors of Emerald Publishing and the scientific committee.

Emerald Publishing, the international publisher of academic journals and books in different fields including management, business, education, health and engineering, has been awarding high-impact and prominent articles amongst its publications under the umbrella of the Emerald Literati Awards for more than 25 years. This award, presented for the 26th time this year, aims to celebrate and reward the extraordinary contributions of authors not only to Emerald journals and books, but to the body of knowledge itself.

Ecem İnce's article, which was deemed worthy of the "Outstanding Paper" award, one of the most important awards within the scope of the 2021 Emerald Literati Awards, was among the most distinguished articles published in the Emerald database in 2021.

Making a statement on the subject, EMU Faculty of Tourism Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç emphasized that this award is a work that reflects the level of quality doctoral theses produced in the EMU Tourism Faculty Doctorate Program. Expressing his happiness and pride that the results of Ecem İnce's doctoral thesis will reach a wider audience, Prof. Dr. Kılıç extended his heartfelt gratitude to thesis supervisors Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren for their valuable guidance and contributions from the beginning of the thesis until its dissertation. Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that the study, which reveals the effects of the cittaslow (slow city) philosophy on the development of sustainable tourism in Northern Cyprus, provides important results within the scope of the development of the Northern Cyprus tourism industry and the cities in Northern Cyprus.

Stating that the success of master's and doctoral programs is not a coincidence, Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that EMU Tourism Faculty is ranked 38th in the field of Tourism and Hotel Management in the World University Academic Ranking 2021 Field Rankings List of the China-based world university ranking institution ShanghaiRanking.

Prof. Dr. Kılıç added that Ecem İnce, who is a graduate of EMU Tourism Faculty, is currently employed as a lecturer with the title of Dr. at Istanbul Kent University, Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts.
