EMU Special Education Department Organises a Conference for Teachers and Parents at Famagusta Special Education and Job Training School

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education organized a conference for teachers and parents at Famagusta Special Education and Job Training School within the framework of university-school-family cooperation. The conference titled “Communication Skills, Attitudes and Behavioral Problems in Individuals with Special Needs and Their Solution” took place at EMU Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall. The conference was delivered by EMU Education Faculty, Special Education Department academic staff members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salih Çakmak and Dr. Tamer Karakoç.

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çakmak gave information to the participants about the perspective of families and society on individuals with special needs, attitudes towards disabled individuals, the development of positive attitudes, communication with individuals with special needs and what should be considered in communication. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çakmak also presented examples on teaching skills to individuals with special needs, helping them gain new skills. Dr. Karakoç, on the other hand, after providing general information on problem behaviors and behavioral management in individuals with special needs, talked about identifying problem behaviors with examples, observing situations before, during and after the behavior, methods and implementation of behavior intervention and recording problem behaviors and monitoring the intervention.
