EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education Organizes Online Seminars for Its Students

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education organized two online seminars, “Dyslexia: Early Signs and Treatment” and “A Look into Disability Movement” for its students. The first seminar focused on the definition of dyslexia, its relation with linguistic factors, early signs, precautions to be taken and how to deal with the dyslexia. The said seminar was delivered by EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education academic staff member Prof. Dr. Berrin Baydık. Prof. Dr. Baydık informed undergraduate program students about the problems experienced by dyslexic students in reading and writing, early symptoms of dyslexia and evidence-based interventions. 

Great Interest in the Seminars

The second seminar titled “A Look into the Disability Movement” was delivered by Disability Rights Activist and Researcher Specialisy İdil Seda Ak. Working on the education right of people with disabilities, the rights of women with disabilities, the rights of children with disabilities, the right of disabled people to live independently, equal recognition of disabled people before the law, children's rights and United Nations Human Rights mechanisms, specialist Ak talked to the students about the historical perspective on disability, the transformation of the disability movement, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and current discussions in the context of the rights defined in the convention. The seminars received great interest by the EMU Education Faculty, Department of Special Education students.
