EMU Department of Interior Architecture Holds Workshop in Mardin

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture, Department of
Interior Architecture held a workshop titled ‘Design-Create-Use’ in Mardin in scope of Mardin Museum’s training activities. As coordinators of the workshop, EMU Department of Interior Architecture Faculty Members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asu Tozan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamil Güley, Academic Members Cavide Atukalp and Seyit Ermiyagil represented EMU at the event.

During this highly participated workshop that included participants between the ages of 12 and 18, the participants gathered to design and produce their own furniture. During this workshop that aimed to create an environment for discussing topics such as structure with waste material – recycling – ergonomics – design on a basic level, the thought process of the designers were reflected upon their products. The participants, who got the opportunity to create their own designs and get a hands-on learning experience, transformed their designs into practical items suitable for every-day use. 

The workshop coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tozan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Güley and academic staff members Atukalp and Ermiyagil stated that the workshop created a productive environment where the participants could learn by practice. Mardin Museum officials expressed their satisfaction about the workshop and the awareness it induced about environment and design. The workshop was concluded after the students received their certificates of participation.
