EMU Architecture Department Students Design Housing Project for Home-Based Workers

Joint architecture studio project operated within the scope of the collaboration between architecture departments of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Yıldız Technical University (YTU) in İstanbul is to continue during the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester. Students are designing a housing project for home-based workers located in İstanbul.

Within the framework of the ARCH392 Architectural Design Studio IV course delivered at the EMU Architecture Department and, the Architectural Design Studio V course with MT5 course code delivered at the YTU Architecture Department, the students are conducting “An Architectural Project Supporting Economic Production within Residences” project in Gaziosmanpaşa district in İstanbul, the project site selected for urban transformation. 

EMU Architecture Faculty academic staff members and ARCH 392 architectural design studio coordinators Prof. Dr. Özgür Dinçyürek and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ercan Hoşkara organized a technical visit to İstanbul with volunteering students who are taking the course. MT IV course coded Architectural Design Studio coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Candan Çınar Çıtak and research assistant Dr. İlkim Markoc made a detailed presentation to the EMU Architecture Department faculty members on the development of the region, the characteristics of the selected land and the project content. During the visit, the city and region chosen for the project were discussed in detail and the concept of housing for the user was questioned. In addition, the goal of creating spatial projects in which physical and social transformation will be achieved together was established.

Carried out within the scope of the pandemic rules, the project is conducted by EMU Architecture Faculty academic staff members and ARCH 392 architectural studio coordinators Prof. Dr. Özgür Dinçyürek and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ercan Hoşkara, lecturers Mehmet Sinan, Kemal Kasapoğlu and Safiye Özaltıner, and research assistants Nazgol Hafizi and Diler Haji Morad Aldoski. Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture provided intensive support to the studies carried out in Istanbul.
