Digital Violence, Cyberbullying and Protection Methods Seminar from EMU SCT

Organised by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) School of Computing and Technology (SCT) in cooperation with Famagusta Women's Center Association (MAKAMER), a "Digital Violence, Cyberbullying and Protection Methods" seminar was held on the occasion of the 25 November, the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

EMU and MAKAMER have decided to work together to remove the gender imbalance in the fields of technology and science, two areas where future professions are concentrated. In this direction, they are planning various activities in order to reach all segments of the society, to raise awareness about technology issues and to ensure the tendency of young people towards these areas without gender discrimination.

The first of these events, the series of seminars titled “Digital Violence, Cyberbullying and Protection Methods”, were given by EMU SCT Information Systems and Technologies Program academic staff member Sen. Inst. Yeşim Kapsıl Çırak. During the first stage of the seminars covered the students of Fazıl Küçük Industrial Vocational High School, Famagusta Turkish Maarif College and Namık Kemal High School in the Famagusta region.

In the seminar, cyberbullying was defined through the use of examples from the environment and the world in order to increase the awareness of the participants towards cyberbullying. In the seminar, where it was emphasized that cyberbullying in the digital environment is also a crime, the basic precautions that can be taken against cyberbullying and the importance of reporting / complaint were explained. Things that can be done to prevent cyberbullying on social media were also discussed in focus. In addition, young people were also given information about the people and methods they can apply to get help when they or someone around them encounter cyberbullying. At the end of the seminars, which attracted great interest from both students and teachers, gifts from the university were presented to the participating students.
