Network and Perimeter Security (ITSE307)

This course provides students with a foundational understanding of how to secure network connections and defend an organization's boundaries against cyber threats. It covers critical concepts related to network defense, including network hardening, the implementation of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and the use of firewalls and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The course also explores strategies like defense in depth and the role of honeypots and honeynets in security. Students will learn about network monitoring and traffic analysis, techniques for minimizing exposure and attack surfaces, and network access control. Key topics include the establishment and enforcement of network policies and operational procedures, as well as the design and implementation of perimeter networks (DMZs) and proxy servers. The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect network infrastructure and data at the perimeter and within an organization's systems.
