Historical Success from the Film “Teslimat (Delivery)” Produced Under EMU’s Sponsorship

The Turkish-Cypriot short film "Teslimat (Delivery)", produced under the sponsorship of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), won two awards in the same week in two festivals, which have the purpose of the pre-selection for the Spanish Academy Awards (GOYA). Directed by EMU Communication Faculty, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department Master’s program graduate Doğuş Özokutan, the short film has become the first Turkish Cypriot short film winning an award at GOYA accredited festivals. “Teslimat” first won the “Best International Short Film” award at the 44th Elche International Independent Film Festival, and then the “Best Social Feature Film” award from the 15th “Sax International Film Festival”. A limited number of festivals in Spain have GOYA accreditation.

Competed at Festivals for OSCAR Pre-Eliminations

“Teslimat”, the main producer of which was EMU Communication Faculty academic staff  Vasvi Çiftcioğlu, has been included in the official selection of the festivals conducting pre-selections for GOYA four times so far. The short film competed in festivals qualifying for the American Academy Awards (OSCAR) twice. Making its world premiere in November 2020, "Teslimat" won the "Audience Award" from Italy in December, and the "Best Short Film" and "Best Actor" awards from Puerto Rico in May.

The film, which tells the story of a driver who risks the life of a group of refugees to pay for his daughter's surgery, has so far been included in the official selection of 19 international festivals in Spain, Italy, France, Chile, the USA and Puerto Rico. The film, starring İzel Ceylani, was shot in the village of Çamlıca in January 2020.
