EMU Doctoral Degree Student Vasvi Çiftçioğlu to Work with World Renowned Academician İbrahim Shaw

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Communication doctoral student Vasvi Çiftçioğlu will be working with the creator of “Human Rights Journalism” theory, world renowned writer-academician İbrahim Seaga Shaw.

Being granted the European Union’s education scholarship for Turkish Cypriot citizens, Çiftçioğlu is admitted to the Northumbria University in England where he will complete his doctoral research. Within the framework of mentioned scholarship, Çiftçioğlu will continue his work under the counselling of İbrahim Seaga Shaw and also publish joint publications with Shaw during a course of 10 months.

By applying the perspective of peace journalism, İbrahim Seaga Shaw and Vasvi Çiftçioğlu will focus on how the issue of “natural gas research crisis”, which broke out in the Mediterranean in September, 2011, was reflected to public on Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot media. Apart from his doctoral study, Çiftçioğlu has been working as a journalist in various media organs both in the North and South of the island. During his time in Newcastle, Çiftçioğlu will give seminars and courses where he will share his experiences on peace journalism with students.

Former secretary of International Peace Research Association (IPRA), Dr. İbrahim Seaga Shaw is working as a senior lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences in Northumbria University. Being a writer of numerous books and academic publications, Shaw is accepted as one of the most important academicians in the field of Peace Journalism and Human Rights Journalisms.
