Communication and Media Studies Faculty Student Çiftcioğlu’s Outstanding Success

Having received two consecutive awards at the United States, Random Attempts, a short film co-directed by Eastern Mediterranean University Communication and Media Studies Faculty PhD student Vasvi Çiftcioğlu will be screened at Towson University in Maryland. Formerly screened at Houston and Seattle, the said short movie co-directed by Vasvi Çiftcioğlu and Doğuş Özokutan has been screened in more than 20 international festivals and received awards.

Random Attempts has been nominated for the 9th Women and Minorities in Media Festival organised by Towson University Electronic Media and Film Department between 14 and 16 April, 2016. Around 1100 short films from 80 countries applied for the said festival and Random Attempts qualified for the festival along with 57 films. 

The screening of the film will take place at System Failure Department at 1:30 p.m. (local time) on 16 April 2016. At the end of the film, directors will be responding to the questions coming from the viewers and will also present information about the cinema sector in our country as well as film studies at Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

Written and produced by Doğuş Özokutan, Random Attempts addresses A question as old as the history of humankind: What does one live for? Why should we keep on living? Do we have the right to be unhappy about life after fulfilling the roles society has assigned us? According to the film's character Ayla, having no problem in her life does not mean everything is going well. Her monotonous life itself is a sufficient reason for committing suicide. Ayla who decides to take her own life somehow cannot succeed. Nevertheless she does not stop trying to kill herself.

The world premier of the film took place at the 48th Worldfest Houston on 19 April 2015. Random Attempts received Platinium Remi Award in the Black Comedy category of the said festival. The same film came first at the 3rd Seattle Turkish Films  Festival which took place in November 2015.

Along with the USA, Random Attempts will be screened at international festivals taking place in Romania, Mexico, Germany, Turkey, China and Serbia in April and May.
