Speaker of the TRNC Assembly Dr. Sibel Siber Participated in a Talk in EMU

The series of talk events entitled “Countries are Formed in Universities” organised by the Idea and Debate Club operating under the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate finished on 20 March 2015.

Within the framework of the event, TRNC Presidential Elections Candidate and Speaker of the TRNC Assembly Dr. Sibel Siber held a conference at EMU at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, 20 March 2015. Stressing the important role of a leader of a society in international relations, Siber added that a country’s recognizability is directly proportional with the activity level of a leader. Dr. Siber added that if the Cyprus negotiations are carried out at a strong level, the society will be motivated. Dr. Siber also provided information on  Annan Plan and the current situation in negotiations and added that North Cyprus has not yet been able to gain the identity of a real state. Siber stated that she will try her best to solve the aforesaid problem through negotiations and added that she is also planning to put a project entitled reunification of societies into life.

After Siber, another candidate in the TRNC Presidential Elections Lawyer Mustafa Ulaş participated in the same event organised by the Idea and Debate Club. Talking about the Cyprus Conflict, Ulaş  stated that the solution to the aforesaid conflict is not in our hands since the solution to the problem depends on the countries shaping the world. Talking about the effect of the population in elections, Ulaş added that due to North Cyprus’ population, there should be one single region in elections.

Ulaş also talked about the unions and stated that their power and importance should be increased. Stating that left parties in Turkey and Cyprus are not truly left, Ulaş added that for this reason they do not receive sufficient support from workers. Ulaş  stressed the importance of maintaining good relationships with Turkey regardless of the political party or the view of the current administration since the only country that has been supporting ours is Turkey.
