EMU Graduate and Member of the Turkish Parliament Bülent Turan in EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University Law Faculty 2001 year graduate, member of the Turkish Parliament from Justice and Development Party (AKP) from İstanbul and Turkish Grand National Assembly Justice Commission member Bülent Turan delivered a seminar entitled “Latest Political Developments in Turkey”  organised by EMU Business and Economics Faculty on 29 April 2014.

In his opening address, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak stated that he has always been proud of EMU graduates’ success and thanked Turan for accepting their invitation for a seminar in EMU.

During the seminar which started under the moderatorship of EMU Political Science and International Relations Department academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Aylin Gürzel,  Bülent Turan stated that he started his studies in EMU in 1996 and finished in 2001 and during this period of five years, he has unforgettable memories for every moment he spent in EMU.  Turan added that if he was given the opportunity of studying in EMU again, he would choose it without any hesitations. Turan advised the students to value each and every moment they spend in EMU and told them that it is due to the education he received in EMU that he has reached the top of his career.

During his speech entitled “Latest Political Developments in Turkey”, Turan gave a brief summary of his political party’s achievements in Turkey up to now. Also talking about the constitutional reforms which will take Turkey further in democracy, Turan added that in today’s Turkey, problems may be talked about without any limitations and there is respect towards all kinds of ideas and views, even towards the most extreme.

Talking about Turkey’s vision for Cyprus, Bülent Turan stated that now it’s time to abandon the idea of, “The Best Solution in Cyprus is the Lack of Solution” as even the worst solution is better than no solution. In his speech, Bülent Turan also gave information on the elections for presidency, twitter bans and corruption.

Before the seminar, Turan visited EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak in his office. After that Turan visited Law Faculty, Faculty of Health Sciences, the new dormitory operating under “Turkish Credit and Dormitories Organisation” and the mosque construction site. During his visit, Turan also attended a TV program in EMU TV and had lunch with university officials at EMU Beach Club.
