Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) appeared within the 601-800 band in World University Rankings 2026 of UK-based Times Higher Education (THE), publisher of the widely referenced university rankings worldwide. The list also featured 2,191 universities from 115 different countries.
The number of universities included in the sad ranking has increased by 90 compared to the previous year. The University of Oxford ranked as the first followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in second place. Princeton University and University of Cambridge, appeared on the list in third place.
The number of Turkish universities featured on the list rose by 18 from the previous year, totalling 112. EMU was placed in the fifth tier among universities in Türkiye.
Notable Achievements in Subject Rankings
EMU secured a position in the 301–400 band in Business and Economics out of 850 universities across 85 countries, ranking first in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and sharing the second band among universities in Türkiye and across Cyprus.
In Medicine and Health, EMU was placed in the 601–800 band among 1,150 universities from 102 countries, ranking first among TRNC universities and third among Turkish universities.
EMU also ranks among the world’s leading universities in Physical Sciences and Engineering. It is in the 301–400 band for Physical Sciences among 1,447 universities from 107 countries, and in the 501–600 band for Engineering among 1,488 universities from 97 countries.

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç remarked that, as a public university, EMU continues to excel in both quality education and scientific research. Prof. Dr. Kılıç stressed that the university’s consistent high rankings in prestigious international lists—such as THE, QS, U.S. News & World Report, and ShanghaiRanking—are no coincidence. According to Prof. Dr. Kılıç, these achievements result from EMU’s success-driven institutional culture, embraced by all its staff.
