Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), once again, participated in the IEEEXtreme 2025 Coding Marathon simultaneously organized all around the world by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The EMU leg of the marathon was successfully organized by the Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the IEEE Student Society. Annually organized by IEEE, with participation of 20.000 students from 75 countries last year, the international competition is recognized as one of the most prestigious international student competitions where students work on coding and algorithm problems within 24 hours.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Rasime Uyguroğlu, the Head of EMU Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and, the Academic Supervisor of IEEE Student Society. Over the course of the marathon, students gained significant experiences in fields like algorithm generation, problem solving and team work.
21 Teams from EMU
The marathon saw participation from 21 teams, totalling 54 students from different faculties of EMU. The notable rise in engagement compared to last year underscores EMU students’ keen interest in international engineering and technology events.
Global competitions like IEEEXtreme provide students with opportunities to build essential professional skills—such as time management, resilience, creativity, and collaboration—alongside advancing their technical knowledge. Conducted simultaneously worldwide, the event continues to enable EMU students to actively engage in the global engineering community.
