A “Uniform Ceremony” was organized for the students of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Cabin Services Program. During the ceremony held at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall, nearly 100 students from the Civil Aviation and Cabin Services Program took an important step towards the profession, proudly wearing their uniforms and attaching the EMU emblem pins to their lapels.
The said ceremony was attended by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe, Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren and Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, EMU General Secretary Derviş Ekşici, Acting Dean of EMU Faculty of Tourism Assist. Prof. Dr. İlkay Yorgancı, Turkish Airlines (THY) Cabin Supervisor Gülnur Meziyene, Tourism Faculty members, students and their families.
“Take Pride in Your Uniforms”
Following a Minute of Silence and National Anthem, Assist. Prof. Dr. Yorgancı delivered a speech, highlighting that this day marks not just an ordinary occasion but a new beginning, a moment of responsibility, and the formation of professional identity. Speaking to the students, she stated: “Today, your uniform is more than just attire; it represents the values, discipline, conduct, and commitment to safety inherent in the profession you cherish. The civil aviation industry is fast-paced, highly responsible, and directly touches human lives. You are preparing to become one of the most visible and essential components of this complex system. Your uniform reflects not who you are yet, but who you are becoming. You are future professionals of an international field, ambassadors of the skies. Wear your uniform with pride and embrace the responsibility it carries”.
THY Cabin Supervisor Gülnur Mezeine shared her years of experience and love for flying with the students, stressing that every crew, flight, and journey brings its own unique excitement. She spoke about the importance of the uniform, explaining that it embodies a brand, a culture, and a sense of safety. Mezeine also discussed the duties of the cabin crew, emphasizing that civil aviation relies on teamwork. Addressing the students directly, she added: “You are confident, cultured, and capable students of EMU. I have faith in you and believe that with every flight, you will carry your country, your values, and your humanity”.
“May your Achievements be As Limitless as the Sky and Your Path be Bright”
In his speech during the event, Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, who played a leading role in establishing the program, spoke about the Civil Aviation Cabin Services Program and shared insights into its founding process. He addressed the students: “Dear students, as you begin this dynamic and exciting journey, see every challenge as an opportunity for both personal and professional growth. The path you have chosen is more than a career—it is the responsibility to provide passengers with a safe, comfortable, and memorable flight experience. Believe in your potential and your education. Be resilient in the face of obstacles. Strive to stay positive in every situation. Keep your passion for your profession alive. Look to the future with confidence. We have complete faith in you. May your achievements be as limitless as the sky, and your path be bright”.
EMU – The Best on the Island and in the Region
Prof. Dr. Karatepe emphasized that EMU is the leading university both on the island and in the region, mentioning that since 2019, EMU has been evaluated by the Shanghai Ranking, and the Faculty of Tourism has achieved a strong position in this ranking. Speaking to the students, Prof. Dr. Karatepe offered guidance on the civil aviation cabin services profession: “In your career, learn to manage your emotions and always greet others with a smile. Your personal development depends not only on your formal education but also on the experience you gain in the field”. He also highlighted the importance of factors such as job security, available training programs, support in decision-making, and recognition of successful performance in the workplace. He concluded by wishing all students of the EMU Civil Aviation Cabin Services Program great success.
“The Sky is Closer to You”
Highlighting that the gathering marked a proud and significant occasion, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç emphasized that the Civil Aviation Cabin Services Program is designed to train highly skilled professionals who uphold the highest standards of flight safety, focus on customer satisfaction, demonstrate strong communication skills, and are capable of effective problem-solving. Stressing the vital role of air transportation today, Prof. Dr. Kılıç underlined the ongoing need for qualified personnel in the sector. He further noted that the program equips graduates to meet the industry’s highest demands, reflecting the prestige of the profession. Prof. Dr. Kılıç continued: “The uniform you will wear today is more than just attire. While wearing it, students represent not only themselves but also our university, their instructors, and the institutions they will serve in the future. Donning this uniform signifies taking on responsibility and moving a step closer to your dreams. From this moment, the sky is within your reach. We are confident in your success in every assignment. As EMU, we will take pride in seeing you shine in the skies. I wish you enduring success in all your endeavors”.
Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Kılıç and Assist. Prof. Dr. Yorgancı presented Program Coordinator Aslı Akı a bouquet. Moreover, Rector, Vice Rectors, General Secretary and Academic Staff members placed EMU-emblem pins on the lapels of students’ uniforms. Lastly, achieving students of 2024-2025 Academic Year Spring Semester received their Honor and High Honor certificates.
