Gastrointestinal System, Metabolism and Related Disorders (MEDN320)

At the end of this committee, third year students will gain knowledge about the development, structure and physiology of the gastrointestinal system and pathogenesis of the disorders related to this system. They will also gain knowledge about the signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal system disorders, related risk factors, prevention, diagnosis and principles of treatment. Learning Objectives: At the end of this committee, third year student will, • understand and review the development, histology and structure of the gastrointestinal system, • understand the working mechanism of gastrointestinal function and its regulation, • comprehend gastrointestinal system as a processor converting foods to building stones of energy, • define the pathologic processes in gastrointestinal system disorders, • gain knowledge about microorganisms that affect the gastrointestinal system and its infections, • gain knowledge about the risk factors related to gastrointestinal system disorders and preventive measures, • gain knowledge about the major signs and symptoms of these disorders • gain knowledge about the approach to diagnosis, and principles of treatment in gastrointestinal disorders and comprehend laboratory investigation as a part of differential diagnosis
