EMU and Cyprus Evkaf Foundation Held a Press Conference in Nicosia

Eastern Mediterranean University and Cyprus Evkaf Foundation held a joint press conference with the aim of sharing information on the restructuring project of Cyprus Evkaf Foundation with public. Held at Cyprus Evkaf Foundation Head Office at 1:00 p.m. on 6 March 2015, the press conference took place with the participation of EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Cyprus Evkaf Foundation Executive Board Chair Mustafa Özgü, Cyprus Evkaf Foundation General Director Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan,   EMU Business and Economics Faculty, Business Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tümer and Project Manager İzzet Atalay and EMU Public Relations and Press Office Director Derviş Ekşici.

During the press conference, Cyprus Evkaf Foundation Executive Board Member Özgü stated that as one of the largest institutions of Cyprus, Cyprus Evkaf Foundation has infrastructural problems.  Talking about their joint project with EMU, Özgü gave information about five main areas of the aforesaid project. Thanking all those who contributed to the project, Özgü  added that the project will be put into life during the upcoming days and the regulations will be drafted accordingly.

In his address, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated the importance of the project for them and added that Cyprus Evkaf Foundation is the representative of our ancestors’ heritage. Stating the importance of EMU for the TRNC as a large-scale institution of higher education, Prof. Dr. Osam thanked EMU and Cyprus Evkaf Foundation’s team for their involvement in the project.

Cyprus Evkaf Foundation’s General Director Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter stated that as Cyprus Evkaf Foundation, their mission is to allocate foundation resouces for public benefit as well as for the social, economic and cultural needs of the society. Prof. Dr.  Benter added that with the purpose of converting foundations into more productive institutions, they initiated a restructuring process about 18 months ago.

Following the speeches, Project Manager İzzet Atalay provided detailed information about the project, which has five distinct divisions under the titles of Accounting System, Property Management, Institutional Structure, Human Resources and TRNC Poverty Map. Talking about their collaboration with EMU Business and Economics Faculty, Atalay provided further information on the main categories of the project.
