EMU CCS and EMAA to Host Şinasi Tekman Sculpture Exhibition and Book Promotion Event

On 15 April World Art Day, Eastern Mediterranean University Center for Cyprus Studies (EMU–CCS) in collaboration with the European Mediterranean Art Association (EMAA)  is launching a sculpture exhibition and a book promotion event in memory of Şinasi Tekman, the first Turkish Cypriot Sculptor.

The first phase of the event will take place at Famagusta Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center on 15 April 2016. The official opening of the event will be held with the participation of EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam at 6:00 p.m. on the said date. The second leg of the event will take place EMAA Nicosia Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 6 May 2016.

Exhibition curator and book writer Zehra Şonya stated that on 15 April World Art Day, they aim to further explore artwork and heritage of late sculptor Sinasi Tekman, who perished in 2005.

The exhibition which will feature pieces of from Tekman Collection will also include large numbers of original documents present at EMU CCS archives.

Şinasi Tekman was born in 1933 the Yiğitler village, Cyprus. Tekman is well known for his beautiful wooden sculptures as well as his poetry and many articles published in the press.

The exhibition will be open for art lovers at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m / 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. during weekdays from 15 to 29 April 2016.
