Basics of Literary and Cultural Studies (TRAN214)

This course aims to equip the students with the ability required for the analysis of English text and discourse structure. More specifically, by the end of the course, participants will be able to apply models of text and discourse analysis to various text types and genres, articulate reader positioning, social mediation, expression of identity, and knowledge construction as illuminated by these different linguistic perspectives. The objectives of the course are achieved through readings, lectures and discussion on: analysis of written documents (from various discourses, such as history, journalism, narratives, etc.)
