Following her gold medal success at the European U18 Championships, Ada Kafa, a registered athlete of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and a national athlete, visited EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç in his office. The accomplished athlete was accompanied by her coach, Hasan Maydon, with whom she has worked for nearly four years.
EMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu and Sport Affairs Coordinator Aydın Kayol from Student Development, Events and Sport Affairs Directorate were also present during the said visit.
Representing the Turkish National Team in the European U18 category for the first time, Ada Kafa marked a significant achievement by winning a gold medal at the championships. During her visit, the young athlete presented her medal to Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and provided insights into her accomplishments to date and her future goals.
Competing in 800-meter category, Ada Kafa holds the Turkish champion titles in both the U18 and U20 categories, as well as the title of European U18 Champion. Her current best time is 2:09.61, while the qualification standard for the U20 World Championships is 2:09.00.
Expressing her ambition to achieve the qualifying standard and compete at the U20 World Championships in the United States, Ada Kafa stated that she has been maintaining an intensive training schedule together with her coach, Hasan Maydon.
Emphasizing that Ada Kafa’s achievement is the result of disciplined training and remarkable determination, coach Hasan Maydon stated, “Ada is an exceptionally hardworking athlete who pursues her goals with confidence and dedication. We have been training together with great discipline and commitment for nearly four years. Her fighting spirit, strong work ethic, and determination have carried her to the title of European Champion. We now have a new goal ahead of us: to surpass the qualifying standard and represent our country in the best possible way at the U20 World Championships.”
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç noted that the success of Ada Kafa brings great pride to both the University and our country, stating, “We are extremely proud of Ada for achieving such a remarkable accomplishment at a young age.
