EMU Department of Public Relations and Advertising Students Demonstrate Social Responsibility for Stray Animals

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Communication, Department of Public Relations and Advertising students carried out a meaningful social responsibility project as part of their PRAD-303 / HIRE-303, Social Responsibility course and under the coordination of Assist. Prof. Dr. Umut Ayman. As part of the project held under the umbrella of EMU Community Involvement Center (CIC), students aimed to draw attention to the living conditions of stray animals, raise public awareness, and strengthen the culture of volunteerism.

A Visit to Iskele Animal Shelter

EMU Public Relations and Advertising Department students visite İskele Animal Shelter, where they carried out an awareness initiative focused on the animals housed there. During the visit, the students received information from shelter officials about animal care practices, current needs, and the overall operation of the facility. In order to help meet the animals’ sheltering needs during the cold winter months, the students donated animal huts. Shelter representatives emphasized that the contributions made by EMU students were highly valuable, both in terms of morale and tangible support.

In another initiative supporting the İskele Animal Shelter, students made a pet food donation after visiting the facility, where they observed the general conditions and identified the needs of the animals firsthand.

Activities Held in Support of Stray Animals

The funds raised through the “Painting Workshop in Support of Stray Animals,” organized at Publik Cafe, were donated to the Altın Patiler Association to be used for the medical care of stray animals. The event not only helped students develop a sense of social responsibility, but also provided them with practical experience in public relations.

Another activity aimed at supporting stray animals was a football tournament, where participants competed for a charitable cause. The revenue generated from the tournament was allocated to meeting the basic needs of stray animals.

Additionally, within the scope of a Social Responsibility Project, EMU student Habib El Zubi contributed to the welfare of stray dogs living around the campus by donating dog food to the EMU Faculty of Communication.

Students from the EMU Department of Public Relations and Advertising thanked all individuals who supported these initiatives, noting that the projects made a meaningful contribution to increasing public awareness and sensitivity toward animal rights.
