Recai Ergün, recently appointed President of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Board of Trustees (VYK), and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, accompanied by a university delegation, paid a courtesy visit to Ali Murat Başçeri, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nicosia. The visit, held at the Ambassador’s office on Friday, 30 October 2026, was attended by EMU VYK Members Özdinç Akdel, Dr. Eyüp Göksü, Lütfü Oflaz, and Hulus Hulusioğlu; EMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe and Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren; and Rector’s Office Private Secretary Kazım Hakverdi.
The visit, which took place following the commencement of the new term of office of EMU VYK, provided an opportunity for the university delegation to meet with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nicosia, Ali Murat Başçeri, and exchange views on EMU’s ongoing activities, institutional priorities, and objectives for the forthcoming period. Discussions also addressed the university’s position within the higher education sector and the significance of maintaining strong institutional relations with the Republic of Türkiye.
Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri expressed his pleasure at welcoming the EMU delegation and extended his best wishes to EMU Board of Trustees President Recai Ergün for success in his new role. During the visit, EMU Board of Trustees President Ergün and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç presented Ambassador Başçeri with a commemorative silver plate to mark the occasion. The visit concluded with an exchange of mutual goodwill and best wishes.
