8th Silver Screen Days in EMU Translation and Interpretation Department

8th Silver Screen Days organised by Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Translation and Interpretation commenced at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy  Hall on 4 January 2016.                                      

Taking place between 4 and 7 January 2016, the event hosted the screening of movies with different themes. The said organisation also hosted presentations on different translation techniques as well as on the importance of professional translation.

8th Silver Screen Days hosted movies translated into Turkish by students named Affet Aksakallı, Ayşe İnsan, Buğra Etikan, Hamit Çobanoğlu, Sevinç İnsan, Aziz Tuncay, Cemal Aşık, Görsel Monargalı, Meryem Ökten, Murat Erkol, Hulusi Özyahyalar, Sıla Akalın, Cansu Kanioğlu, Ziya Mert, Gizem Dönmez, Gürbüz Bazu and Ömer Bor.

Event coordinator, Translation and Interpretation Department academic staff member Neslihan Binatlı Hekimoğlu  stated that the event aims to make the students aware of the important responsibility undertaken in the career of translation.  Academic staff member Hekimoğlu also added that there is a sectoral need for quality translations and expert translators. Hekimoğlu put forth that in order to function as a high quality translator, one should possess effective translation techniques, intercultural communication and general culture.
