Events organized throughout May 2026 covered a meeting with elders of the community, awareness workshops towards the youth and programs aiming to contribute to the cultural development of international students.

A Visit to Ayışığı Elders Home on Mother’s Day

As part of the Mother’s Day events, the EMU-CIC paid a visit to Ayışığı Elders Home in Famagusta, where they spent time with the residents of the care home. School students also participated in the visit, during which elderly mothers were presented with flowers and handwritten notes carrying Mother’s Day wishes. Accompanied by music performances, refreshments, and warm conversations throughout the day, the residents enjoyed emotional and memorable moments, highlighting the significance of Mother’s Day.

Biray Şenyiğit, Director of Ayışığı Elders Home, noted that sharing this meaningful day with elderly residents was greatly appreciated and thanked all those who contributed to the organization. On the other hand, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso Kandemir, Chairperson of EMU-CIC, underlined the invaluable role of mothers in society and stated that such visits play an important role in strengthening ties between generations.

Kyrenia Field Trip Within the Scope of ‘Move for Health Day’

Another activity organized by the EMU-CIC was a trip to Kyrenia held within the scope of Move for Health Day in collaboration with the Tourism Club. The program, attended by international students from various countries, provided participants with the opportunity to closely explore the historical and cultural heritage of Northern Cyprus. During the trip, students visited important landmarks including Hz. Ömer Tomb, Bellapais Abbey, Kyrenia Castle, and Kyrenia Harbour. The program enabled students not only to engage in cultural exploration but also to strengthen their social interactions. The day-long event also contributed to raising awareness about healthy living through physical activity.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso Kandemir stated that the event helped strengthen social bonds among students while also making a valuable contribution to the promotion of the region’s cultural heritage.

Digital Awareness Seminar Held as part of Information Technology Week

As part of Information Technology Week, EMU-CIC came together with students at Namık Kemal High School and organized an awareness seminar titled “Social Media and Our Digital Footprints.” The seminar was delivered by Dr. Şebnem Çoban, Program Coordinator of the Information Systems and Technologies Program at the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology. During the seminar, students were informed about social media usage, digital security, protection of personal data, and digital footprints.

The event, which attracted active participation from students, addressed both the opportunities and risks of the digital world while raising awareness about conscious and responsible internet use. At the end of the event, Rabia Yörük from the Guidance Counseling Service of Namık Kemal High School presented flowers to Dr. Şebnem Çoban in appreciation of her contribution.

In her remarks, Yörük emphasized the importance of such awareness-raising events for students’ personal development and expressed her satisfaction with the strong interest shown by the young participants.

On the other hand, EMU-CIC's Chairperson Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso Kandemir underscored the significance of creating digital awareness in youth and stated: “The seminars we organize within the scope of Information Technology Week are among the initiatives we continue to carry out each year with great enthusiasm and pleasure. Raising awareness among young people in this field and supporting the continuity of this awareness are extremely valuable to us. As the EMU-CIC, we will continue to take an active role in such social responsibility projects that positively contribute to society”.

All these activities further demonstrate the EMU-CIC’s sustainable and inclusive approach to social responsibility toward different groups within society, while also contributing to the strengthening of university’s societal mission.
