EMU Champion Angels Volleyball Tournament Commences

The second edition of Champion Angels Volleyball Tournament organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Student Development, Activities and Sports Affairs Directorate commenced on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 at 05:30 p.m. at EMU Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex.

Bringing together athletes from the university, public institutions, and diverse community groups, the tournament attracted attention on its opening day with the high level of competition and fair play displayed on the field. Audience in the stands showed their support for the teams, sharing in the unifying spirit of sport.

The opening match of the tournament was held between ‘Kimse Görmeden’ and ‘Voleybol Tutkunları’ teams. Team ‘Kimse Görmeden’ defeated its opponent with a score of 2-1. The second match of the day featured ‘Blok Yok Umut Var’ and EMU Sports Affairs teams, resulting a win of 2-1 score for the ‘Blok Yok Umut Var’ team. The last match of the day was played by EMU Volleyball and Koop Bank teams. Koop Bank team secured victory following the score of 2-1.

Taking place in the master category with the participation of 10 teams, the tournament is designed to be more than a sporting competition. It seeks to commemorate the Champion Angels who lost their lives in the 6 February earthquake, while passing on to younger generations the values they represented—hope, unity, perseverance, and social responsibility. Throughout the matches, friendship, mutual respect, and unity were emphasized on the field, once again highlighting the unifying and restorative power of sport.

The tournament will continue with matches held every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., and is expected to feature highly competitive games in the coming weeks. Following the completion of the group stage, the Champion Angels Volleyball Tournament will conclude with the semifinal and final matches.
