EMU VYK Pays a Courtesy Visit to The Republic of Türkiye Embassy in Nicosia

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk, along with Board Members Halil İbrahim Orun, Beyhan Gürgöze, Servet Karabacak, and Güneş Güneşoğlu, paid a courtesy visit to Ali Murat Başçeri, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nicosia.

During the visit, a broad evaluation of the higher education landscape in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was carried out, and the impact of regional conflicts and wars on the higher education sector was discussed. Attention was also drawn to the large number of universities in Northern Cyprus, and the potential benefits and drawbacks of this for the country were explored.

“The Support of Our Homeland and State Holds Utmost Importance for EMU”

Making an address during the visit, EMU VYK President Dr. Erdal Özcenk shared extensive insights on EMU’s educational vision, its goals for internalization, its strategies, as well as the newly launched departments and faculties. Dr. Özcenk emphasized the university’s forward-looking initiatives, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence and technology, noting that new programs have been launched to meet contemporary demands. He also provided insights into the protocol signed with the government, highlighting its benefits—especially regarding retirement regulations. “The support we receive from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Türkiye is deeply appreciated,” said Dr. Özcenk and continued; “As one of the key institutions of this country, EMU continues to grow and achieve new milestones. It is a source of pride for us to feel the strength and backing of our homeland and government”.

“EMU is a Forward-Looking Educational Institution”

Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nicosia, Ali Murat Başçeri, highlighted that they are closely following the developments at EMU, stating, “As the first and only state university in the country established by law, EMU stands out as a forward-looking educational institution.”

The visit concluded with EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk presenting Ambassador Başçeri with a silver plate as a token of appreciation.
