Newspaper Design (YMGA383)
This course aims at introducing the fundamentals of newspaper design by using a personal computer. The course covers the basic elements of newspaper page layout. Students are expected to develop the technical and artistic skills required to produce professional-quality newspaper using desktop publishing software and hardware. Skills emphasized will include basic familiarity with layout software (Quark Xpress), drawing software (Adobe Illustrator) and image-editing software (Adobe Photoshop). Topics to be included are: identifying and using basic design elements; composing tabloid size newspaper layout; editing pictures; writing headlines; using visuals.
