Film Aesthetics (SVTV421)

This course aims at introducing students to the basic film criticism and analysis which requires a sound background of the film theory and philosophy in close connection with the art history and literature. The course concentrates on film aesthetics focusing on form and style in cinema such as mise-en-scene, mise-en-shot, narrative structure; issues related to philosophical aesthetics and their application to film such as meaning, value, expression, beauty and creativity; and classic and contemporary film theory studying the film theorists and philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze, Rudolph Arnheim and Stanley Cavell.
